U.S. Marshals arrest woman wanted for murder in Maple Heights

MAPLE HEIGHTS, Ohio — The Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force has arrested a 28-year-old woman on Monday.

Katia Chappell, of Cleveland, was wanted by the Cleveland Division of Police for murder.

"The need to locate and arrest violent individuals like this is paramount to keeping our community safe. The fact someone could so carelessly take a life can never be overlooked. The diligent work of our officers and task force partners should be commended. Our hope is the victim’s family can find some peace with this arrest,” said U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott.

Chappell was taken into custody in the 5000 block of Arch Street in Maple Heights.

According to reports, on November 25, 2021 Chappell was involved in a verbal altercation with two other women that escalated into a shooting. Police reports allege that Chappell shot a 29-year-old woman, identified as Dominque Johnson. The shooting took place in the 125000 block of Elmwood Avenue. At the time, Johnson was transported to a local hospital where she later died from her injuries.  

Following her arrest, Chappell was turned over to Cleveland Police.
