US Marshals: Suspect kills himself during attempted arrest in Cleveland

CLEVELAND — A suspect has died after allegedly shooting himself in Cleveland during an arrest attempt by the U.S. Marshals. 

Officials say that on Thursday morning, members of the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force located the suspect, Billy Stuart II, at a home near East 55th Street and Outhwaite Avenue.

Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop after they watched Stuart enter a vehicle. Moments later, a female fled from the vehicle. 

According to the U.S. Marshals, shortly after, Stuart shot and killed himself inside the vehicle. 

Stuart was wanted for the following crimes:

  • Sept. 4 | 4700 block of Woodland Avenue 
    • Stuart was wanted by the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority Police Department for felonious assault. During an incident, it is alleged that Stuart assaulted two women who were left with visible injuries to their body and face.  
  • July 24 | 200 block of West 65th Street  
    • Stuart was wanted by the Cleveland Division of Police for an aggravated robbery incident. Stuart allegedly assaulted a female victim by pistol whipping her and then fleeing in her vehicle. 
  • April 29 
    • The Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Department issued an arrest warrant for drug trafficking, drug possession, obstruction and possession of criminal tools.
  • April 22 
    • The Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Department issued a warrant for felonious assault on a police officer, failure to comply and obstruction. The incident happened on March 5

Additionally, Stuart was wanted by the Ohio Adult Parole Authority for parole violations. A warrant for his arrest was issued on April 11.

At this time, Cleveland police are investigating the incident.

No other injuries were reported from the scene.
