AKRON, Ohio — A wanted man was arrested by members of the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force Tuesday afternoon in Akron.
39-year-old Christopher Mason was wanted by the Akron Police Department for the murder of a 38-year-old woman and felonious assault of her 5-year-old daughter on New Year's Eve.
According to the Akron Police Department, officers responded to the 1300 block of Brittain Road after neighbors reported gun shots being fired in a nearby residence. When officers arrived to the scene, they found a woman unresponsive with apparent gunshot wounds and a 5-year-old girl with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
Christopher Mason was identified as a suspect and a warrant for his arrest was issued on New Year's Day.
Tuesday afternoon, the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force found and arrested Mason at a residence near the 200 block of East Miller Avenue in Akron.
“A woman was killed, and a young girl was seriously injured because of the senseless actions of a dangerous fugitive. The Akron Police Department did an outstanding job identifying this suspect, which led to an arrest within days of the incident,” said U.S. Marshal Pete Elliot.
