CLEVELAND — Two weeks ago, 38-year-old Alex Nosse was riding his bike home near the intersection of Fulton and Lorain on Cleveland's west side when the unthinkable happened.
"As I approached the intersection, I just saw lights coming at me," Nosse recalls.
They were lights that should not have been there.
Surveillance camera video from around 7:30 p.m. on October 18 (you can see the full clip below) provides details of the incident. About 16 seconds into the footage, you see a white car headed south on Fulton. There was a red light, yet the driver did not stop. The car slammed right into Nosse, then kept going.
"Hit the bike and knocked me down on the ground," says Nosse. I got banged up pretty bad." A picture of him in the emergency room shows Nosse with a neck brace on with plenty of bruises.
Now back at his store, Joy Machines Bike Shop on Detroit Avenue, Nosse is helping out the neighborhood kids every day. But the thought of one of them getting struck by a hit-and-run driver horrifies him.
"They didn't stop for even a second, they just burned rubber and took off," Nosse says.
The driver of a dark SUV did stop to help Nosse.
The car that hit Nosse appears to be a white 2015-19 Hyundai Sonata. Nosse says there is a blind spot at the corner of Fulton and Lorain. But he also knows that the driver had a red light, yet chose not to stop.
And what would Nosse say to the driver?
"Change your behavior, that's the main thing. I am definitely mad, but I don't wish ill of them. Hopefully it's the last time they do it."
