West side shootings that left man, teen dead are connected, Cleveland Police report

CLEVELAND — Two shootings that claimed the lives of a 17-year-old boy and a 31-year-old man on Memorial Day are connected, Cleveland Police confirm. 

Police responded to the 1400 block of West 85th Street for reports of a man shot around 9:50 p.m. At the scene,the victim identified as Curtis Legg was found bleeding on the porch of a home. Legg was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center where he was pronounced dead the next day. 

Witnesses report seeing a black male fleeing the scene. 

Just five minutes later, the shooter in the above incident fatally shot and carjacked a 17-year-old heading home from playing soccer. According to police, Eric Hakizimana was stopped at a traffic light, near the 8000 block of Detroit Avenue, when the suspect entered his backseat and shot him before getting away in his car. 

Hazkizimana was found unconscious in the middle of the intersection..
