WILLOWICK, Ohio — One police officer has been taken to the Cleveland Clinic's Hillcrest Hospital following a car chase in Willowick on Friday.
According to Police Chief Brian Turner, an unknown officer was shot, but is expected to recover after being hit in his bulletproof vest.
The suspect was also shot after officers returned fire and was taken to Lake West Hospital before being life-flighted to MetroHealth Medical Center in an unknown condition.
Turner says that the incident started after Eastlake dispatch received calls of an "erratic driver, possibly impaired." The suspect and vehicle were located in Willowick and took off, hitting another car at the intersection of Bayridge Boulevard and Willowick Drive.
After coming to a stop on Daniel Drive, officials say the suspect pulled out a handgun and began firing at officers.
3News arrived on scene around 6:45 p.m. on Friday and found heavy police presence, including officers from Eastlake and Willoughby as well as Willowick.
