A woman who was sent to the hospital following an alleged assault on Cleveland east side has died from her injuries, police confirmed Thursday afternoon.
Authorities say the incident originally occurred on the 1000 block of East 79th St. around 10 p.m. on Feb. 6. Witnesses told officials they saw the suspect repeatedly beating the victim on the ground. The suspect was chased away before returning to assault the victim then running away again.
The victim—identified as 57-year-old Marsha L. Carroll, was taken to University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, where she died Thursday as a result of blunt force trauma to the head. The suspect, 26-year-old Deointa Campbell, was later arrested and is expected to be charged with murder.
This case remains under investigation.
