LAKEWOOD, Ohio — Lakewood High School's physics students renewed one of the school's most beloved traditions on Thursday.
The 20th Annual Lakewood High School Physics Cardboard Boat Regatta was held at the Lakewood High School Pool.
Over 140 junior and senior physics students were given five weeks to construct a boat using only untreated brown cardboard and clear packing tape. The boats must hold "two frantically paddling students" across Lakewood High School's 25-yard pool.
"Typically, we have around a 50% success rate (that means that 50% of the boats/students sunk)," the school noted in a release announcing the event.
This year, the Lakewood High School Regatta partnered with Tavens Packaging and Display Solutions (in Bedford Heights). They donated 900 sheets of cardboard and $1,500.00 to the Lakewood Physics program.
