AKRON, Ohio — Less than two weeks ago, the Akron Public Schools Board of Education voted to select Dr. C. Michael Robinson Jr. as the district’s next superintendent.
At a press conference on Tuesday, Akron Public Schools formally introduced Dr. Robinson, who shared his vision for the district.
"I am eager to embark on the journey alongside our dedicated educators, passionate parents and talented students," Robinson told those assembled. "As I stand here today, I know that there will be challenges that lie before us. Our education system faces many ever-changing landscapes, filled with complex societal issues, technological advancements and evolving learning needs. However, it is precisely in the face of these challenges that our greatest opportunities and progress emerge."

Dr. Robinson comes to Akron from the East Baton Rouge Parish Schools in Louisiana, where he has been serving as the district’s chief academic officer.
“I am extremely pleased and humbly honored to be joining the Akron Public Schools family,” Dr. Robinson said in a statement shortly after he was selected by the board. “Together, with the students, staff, parents, and community, we will take APS to new heights, and I’m very excited to be a part of this journey.”
The search for a new APS superintendent back in February after Christine Fowler-Mack resigned from the post, which was described as a “mutual decision.” 3News previously reported that Fowler-Mack's two-year tenure was plagued by school safety concerns, a bitter contract negotiation with teachers, and an Akron Beacon Journal report that outlined harsh criticisms from members of the board.
APS Executive Director for Elementary Education Mary Outley has been serving as the district's interim superintendent since Fowler-Mack stepped down.
