BAY VILLAGE, Ohio — Editor's note: Video at the top of this story was originally published on Jan. 29, 2021.
As classes resume at Bay High School this week, the district said they are offering “comfort rooms” to share emotional support for students, faculty and staff in response to Friday’s lockdown situation. All district buildings will also provide staff counseling until further notice.
“Our staff and administrative team handled this event admirably,” said Bay Village Schools Superintendent Jodie Hausmann. “They had to lead their students, many while also worrying about their own sons and daughters at the high school, but their love for their students came shining through. I am so proud that we were courageous together.”
No credible weapons or threats were found by police during their sweep of the high school Friday afternoon, and any rumors regarding hostages or threats were unfounded.
School officials are also expressing their gratitude to law enforcement, staff, students and the community as a whole for their support through Friday’s situation.
“The District is grateful that no credible threat or weapons were found, and that all students are safe and accounted for,” school officials posted on their site. “The District is thankful for all faculty and staff who quickly pivoted to their emergency training to keep our students safe, and for our students and families who were brave, patient and followed directives.”
They’re also showing their gratitude for the officers who “swiftly went into motion.” Other law enforcement agencies they’re thanking include: Ohio State Highway Patrol; Cleveland Metroparks Police; North Olmsted Police; Avon Lake Police; Westlake Police; Rocky River Police; The Westshore Enforcement Bureau; Bay Village Fire Department; and Bay Village Auxiliary Police.
