Cleveland State University announces $1 million donation to School of Film and Media Arts

The school first opened in Fall 2018

CLEVELAND — Just months after Cleveland State celebrated the 1-year anniversary of the opening of its School of Film and Media Arts; it's being given an additional gift. 

On Thursday, the University issued a press release announcing that the school had been generously donated  $1 million donation. The donation was a gift from Lee and Ageleke Zapis and The Kelvin and Eleanor Smith Foundation.

The donation aid in the  "upgrade and expansion of the School’s production facilities on the sixth floor of the Idea Center in Playhouse Square and the creation of the Odyssey Program, a summer film camp for area youth designed to introduce them to careers in the industry," according to the press release. 

“I want to personally thank them for their commitment to CSU, to arts education and to our community as a whole,” said Harlan Sands, president of Cleveland State University.

CSU's film and media school first opened in 2018 as Ohio's first free-standing film school.

"It offers innovative, experience-based instruction in directing, screenwriting, cinematography, acting and digital media, and takes advantage of numerous industry and community partnerships to provide a wide variety of opportunities for students to work on current film, TV and digital productions," the released read.
