10 Cleveland Metropolitan School District teachers honored with excellence awards: Education Station

Ten educators within the Cleveland Metropolitan School District were surprised Wednesday morning with an Excellence In Teaching Award.

CLEVELAND — It was a day to honor teachers who go above and beyond in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. Ten educators were honored with the Excellence in Teaching Award.

We were at Harvey Rice Wraparound School, a K-8 building in Cleveland's Buckeye-Woodland neighborhood, this morning where Pre-K teacher Patrice Forney Perkins was greeted with plenty of applause by her students and the awards team.

It's a surprise each year to the 10 educators selected for the Excellence in Teaching Award. Mrs. Perkins was nominated by her colleagues who say she brings the energy for her students each day.

Teachers selected demonstrate expertise in their instruction, creativity and bring innovation to their classrooms. Their work sets a standard of excellence for all teachers.

The purpose of CMSD's Excellence In Teaching Award is to elevate the profession, motivate and inspire teachers as well as enhance the reputation of Cleveland's teachers.

The annual honor is the work of not just CMSD, but the Cleveland Teachers Union, The George Gund Foundation and The Cleveland Foundation

In addition to Mrs. Perkins at Harvey Rice, 3News and the Education Station team would like to congratulate the rest of today's honorees:
