CLEVELAND — If you've been following our "Education Station" series, you know we are monitoring the reading progress of students at Charles Dickens Elementary School in Cleveland.
On Monday, I had the pleasure of spending time at the school and was asked to introduce a member of the legendary Harlem Globetrotters, Zeus McClurkin.
I told the kids about how Zeus had been cut from every basketball team he tried out for until his junior year of high school. Now he plays on the most famous basketball team in the world.
Zeus' message was "never give up" and the kids really enjoyed spending time with him. He stressed to the students the importance of reading, but also talked about staying true to who they were. Zeus also reminded them to be kind and stay kind.
You can see Zeus McClurkin and the rest of the Harlem Globetrotters when they perform at Cleveland's Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse on December 28. Tickets are still available and can be purchased here.
