Deadly high school bus stop shooting in Cleveland: John Adams College and Career Academy closed Wednesday after student dies

'We will not operate in remote learning. This will be a calamity day.'

CLEVELAND — UPDATE: Cleveland police have released new details in the case. CLICK HERE for the latest information.

Classes have been canceled Wednesday at John Adams College and Career Academy in Cleveland in light of the deadly bus stop shooting that claimed the life of a high school student.

The Cleveland Metropolitan School District announced Wednesday’s closure with the following message on their Facebook page shortly before 6 a.m.: "John Adams College and Career Academy will be closed today, Wednesday, January 11th. Grief Counselors will be available at the school for any student or faculty member who needs grief support. We will not operate in remote learning. This will be a calamity day."

Police say the deadly shooting happened Tuesday afternoon at a bus stop near the high school after classes had let out for the day.

The victim has been identified as 18-year-old Pierre McCoy, according to new information released Wednesday morning by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office.

The Cleveland Police Department says McCoy had gunshot wounds to the head and body.

While no suspects have been identified, police say they were wearing all black with a puffy jacket, ski mask, boots and jeans.

No suspects have been identified at this time.
