KENT, Ohio — With ongoing COVID-19 concerns, Kent State University officials announced Monday that all campus events with more than 10 people must be held virtually – including activities sponsored by registered student organizations and academic departments.
It comes as KSU has confirmed 24 total cases since July 7 at the main campus – with 12 newly reported for the week of Aug. 24.
The restriction on gatherings does not affect classes.
“This is a precautionary and proactive measure to limit the spread of COVID-19 and to continue to maximize our opportunity to remain together on campus and learn in person,” KSU officials posted online. “Currently, there is a small number of positive cases related to the Kent Campus. Implementing stricter measures now will lower the possibility of further spread.”
Kent State officials noted this measure, which is in effect until further notice, follows the guidance from the Kent City Health Department.
"The everchanging nature of this pandemic means that we must remain flexible and adjust our plans as necessary to ensure the health and safety of our community. Let’s work together to protect our Flashes family."
Kent State began welcoming students back to campus last week.
