MENTOR, Ohio — School officials in Mentor say Memorial Middle School was evacuated Monday morning “due to smoke discovered on the second floor” near room 219 – which is a science room.
“Everyone is out of the school and is safe,” according to a tweet from Mentor Schools at 10:24 a.m. “Mentor Fire is on the scene. We will update you as soon as we know more information.”
The district shared an update a short time later to announce the Mentor Fire Department had cleared the building with students and staff returning inside.
"Firefighters determined the smoke was coming from one of our HVAC units, caused by paper from its equipment manual burning," according to a post on the Mentor Public Schools Facebook page. "The school day will continue per usual. Everyone is okay. Thank you for your continued support."
