CLEVELAND — The end of the school year also means the end of Eric Gordon's tenure as the CEO of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District.
Gordon, however, won't be leaving town, as he announced on Friday that he is heading to Cuyahoga Community College, where he will serve as its Senior Vice President for Student Development and the Educational Pipeline.
"As I considered how my own career path might ensure continued progress and momentum for the children of Cleveland and Cuyahoga County, I believe this new position at Tri-C provides the greatest opportunity for me to do so," Gordon wrote in a message sent to CMSD educators, families and partners on Friday. "As Senior Vice President for Student Development and the Educational Pipeline, I will serve as a thought partner to Tri-C’s President, Dr. Michael Baston, and as advisor to his Cabinet in developing and implementing strategies that ensure a seamless transition for students from early childhood to postsecondary education and beyond.
"A key focus of my work will be identifying and addressing gaps in the current student development and support systems at the college to ensure students have access to the resources and supports they need to succeed."
Gordon, who has served as CMSD's CEO since 2011, first announced his plans to step down from the role last September.
"While the decision to leave CMSD was not an easy one for me, the time and conditions are right for the Mayor and Board to identify a CEO to lead the District’s long-term recovery from the pandemic and to build on the gains we achieved during a remarkable and historic period in K-12 education," Gordon said at the time.
Earlier this month, CMSD announced that Dr. Warren Morgan would replace Gordon as the district's CEO. Morgan most recently served as the Chief Academic Officer for Indianapolis Public Schools.
