GoFundMe launched for ‘hero’ student who reported finding bullet in West Geauga High School

His actions helped lead police to another student who was arrested and charged after allegedly bringing a gun to school.

CHESTERLAND, Ohio — The West Geauga High School student who is being hailed as a hero after reporting that he found a bullet in a bathroom last week, is now the focus of a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for his future.

The GoFundMe, which identifies the student as Casey Orloski, comes after the incident resulted in the arrest of 18-year-old Brandon Morrissette. Authorities say Morrissette had brought a gun to school with three fully loaded magazines and a lock blade-style knife amid an alleged plan to harm other students.

3News has verified the fundraiser with GoFundMe, which was launched by Casey’s aunt.

“Casey, who is the sweetest and most caring child, was just glad that he was able to help everyone and prevent the attempted school shooting,” according to the GoFundMe page.

“Many people have been asking us how they can donate to Casey,” the GoFundMe continues. “As of right now, Casey is not sure what he would like to do after high school. He has been thinking about going to a trade school but is still undecided. For those of you who would like to donate towards Casey's future, we will be holding these funds in an account for him until he decides what he would like to do after graduation.”

After noting that Casey "has also really appreciated the thank you cards he has received," the GoFundMe says the family has opened a PO box for those who “would like to send Casey a card or any words of encouragement.”

The address is:

Casey Orloski

P.O. Box 96

Chesterland, OH 44026

“As a side note, please remind your children how important and life-altering it can be to ‘See Something, Say Something,'" the GoFundMe page adds.

Earlier this week, 3News reported that he will soon be honored by the Uvalde Foundation For Kids. The organization's founder, Daniel Chapin, released the following statement:

This student who helped extinguish a possible threat to fellow students, represents the reality of how the climate of violence plaguing our nation's schools & threatening student lives can come to an end - Not through gun control or more safety planning meetings; but rather through alert, caring students such as this who refuse to stand by when a potential threat exists.

Morrissette, meanwhile, has not yet appeared in court.

"He admitted to using prior calculation and design in developing a plan to cause harm to students at West Geauga High School on April 3," Chester Township Police Chief Craig Young said last week. "He further acknowledged that the firearm seized by law enforcement on Monday was the weapon he intended to use to inflict that harm."

He's facing multiple charges, which include attempted aggravated murder, inducing panic and illegal possession of a deadly weapon in a school safety zone.
