Exploring the great outdoors in Northeast Ohio: Footgolf, biking, kayaking

Northeast Ohio is spoiled with all its natural resources. Now that it’s spring? Get outside!

CLEVELAND — It’s our favorite time of the year in Northeast Ohio...

The leaves are starting to sprout, flowers starting to bloom and those sweet-spot temperatures are beginning to warm up our weekly forecast.

We set our Lindsay Buckingham on a “great outdoors” adventure last week, and here's what we tackled in one day.

Footgolf

Location: Shawnee Hills Golf Course

This was a blast. Think of golf, now replace a club with your foot and use a soccer ball. Same concept, different tools, but fun for the entire family! It also was a great workout!

Biking

Location: Century Cycles/Towpath Trail

If you haven’t been to Peninsula, this is a must see. We stopped at Century Cycles to rent our bikes, though, there are many options in the area. After getting our map, we hit the Towpath to soak in the gorgeous views of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. The sights and sounds didn’t disappoint with the rippling river next to us, and all the surrounding wildlife. You can go at your own pace, and stop to take in the views along the way.

Kayaking

Location: Crooked River Adventures in Kent

An adventure, indeed! Crooked River is part of the Kent State University Recreation Department. They’ve got everything you need for a day on the water: Kayaks, canoes and even tubing. After some top-notch instruction, we made our way out onto the Cuyahoga for a quick trip. It was the perfect way to wrap our sunny expedition in Northeast Ohio’s outdoor beauty.
