Days after announcing a ground beef recall, the U.S. Department of Agriculture is releasing a list of stores it believes could have received the potentially tainted meat.

Officials say the beef may have been sent to stores in 10 states: Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Wisconsin.

On Monday, USDA recalled about 1.8 million pounds of ground beef products due to possible E. coli contamination. The meat was traced to Detroit-based Wolverine Packing Co.

The beef was the possible source of 11 E. coli illnesses across four states, including three hospitalizations.

USDA said its list may not represent all stores that received the recalled beef.

Food safety officials began contacting each distributor once the recall was announced and may update the list as it continues contacting distributors.

The original recall notice stated the meat was shipped to distributors for restaurant use in Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri and Ohio.

According to USDA's recall notice, the beef products were produced from March 31 to April 18.
