Hate robocalls? Cleveland (216) in the top 20 for most per person

If you combine northeast Ohio area codes more than 2 million robocalls were made each day during the month of September each day.

CLEVELAND – If you have a phone, odds show you probably got a robocall today – or maybe 2, possibly even a dozen is you’re one of the unlucky ones. Don’t expect them to stop anytime soon.

If you combine northeast Ohio area codes (216, 330, 440, 234), more than 2 million robocalls were made each day during the month of September every day!

Those with a 216 area are getting hit the hardest. So much that 216 ranks 19th in the country for areas with the most robocalls per capita.

This data comes from YouMail – a company that not only gathers data on robocalls, but also offers a service to help stop them.

Every second, 10 people with a 216 area code will get a robocall for a total of over 27 million in a month. This is a number that continues to rise over the years as telemarketers and, more likely, scammers try to get ahold of you.

What can you do to slow them down?

There are a few things. First, if the calls are coming from legitimate companies, you can register your number on the FTC’s Do Not Call Registry. Once you register, you’re on the do not call list forever.

But let’s be honest, most of the calls aren’t coming from legit companies. Usually, it’s a scammer who may even spoof a phone number to make it appear as if the call is coming from someone near you by faking the caller ID.

For those situations, the best way to fight back is using your carrier or a third-party app.

AT&T offers a service to its customers called Call Protect. The app uses a crowdsourced database to block spam calls, and lets you manually add to that list. Verizon offers a similar service called Caller Name ID.

Now to the third-party solutions. YouMail, the same company that tracks robocalls, offers a solution as well. They’re competing against brands like NoMoRobo, Privacy Star, and Hiya. Some of their services are free, but there are also subscription-based add-ons.

It’s likely you’ll still get calls no matter what you do. But even one blocked robocall is better than nothing.

And for your enjoyment, we’ve included this list of the 20 numbers most likely to robocall you in Cleveland (Data provided by YouMail):
