BEACHWOOD, Ohio — Construction is currently underway on a major expansion project to University Hospitals' Ahuja Medical Center.
The project, which will cost an estimated $236 million, will bring hundreds of new jobs to Northeast Ohio, offering a slate of advanced specialties to the area.
“As an anchor healthcare institution on Cleveland’s east side, we look forward to evolving UH Ahuja to fit the needs of our patients by offering new and expanded services to the community,” said Alan Papa, FACHE, Chief Operating Officer, UH East Market. “We are not only expanding services that are outgrowing our original configuration, we are designing new buildings from the ground up to allow our caregivers to efficiently provide quality health care and enhance patient experience.”
Included in the new initiatives are expansions to women and newborn care, breast health, sports medicine, men's health, emergency and short stay, as well as an overall expansion of health services.
“To ensure we provide services to existing and new patients as efficiently as possible, new physicians, nurses and specialists will be recruited to our caregiver staff,” Alan emphasized. “Our goal is to provide an integrated approach to our patient’s healthcare needs, working as a system to get patients back to being healthy at home as quickly as possible.”
One estimate alone shows that the new Steve and Loree Potash Women & Newborn Center will be able to deliver and treat roughly 2,400 babies each year, providing top-of-the-line care from the UH Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital.
Additionally, the new Drusinsky Family Sports Medicine Complex will treat an estimated 1,350 athletes in its first year, offering a variety of sports-related medical services, including a performance center, rehabilitation space, and a walk-in clinic.
In total, the new buildings, designed by HKS Inc. Architects and carried out by Sodexo construction management and Gilbrane Building Company, will add an estimated 216,000 square foot hospital pavilion and a nearly 80,000 square foot sports medicine complex.
Construction is scheduled to wrap up in 2023.
