Apple donates 100,000 N95 masks to Ohio to help fight coronavirus

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced on Wednesday that Apple has donated 100,000 N95 masks to Ohio to help combat the coronavirus (COVID-19).

As Ohio faces a shortage of personal protective equipment during its fight with the coronavirus (COVID-19), one of the United States' biggest companies is landing a helping hand.

On Wednesday, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced that Apple CEO Tim Cook has donated 100,000 N95 masks to Ohio. The respirator masks have been in high demand -- and short supply -- and are critical in allowing doctors and nurses to help treat the coronavirus.

"We will be getting those out to our front line health workers," DeWine said. "We thank Apple. We thank Tim Cook. We thank the entire Apple family. Those 100,000, I can guarantee you, will be well used here in the state of Ohio and we are very very grateful."

As of Wednesday, Ohio has had 5,148 confirmed coronavirus cases, 1,485 of which have resulted in hospitalization, 472 ICU admissions and 193 deaths. Dating back to the discovery of the state's first positive coronavirus case on March 9, DeWine has taken several measures to encourage physical distancing, including a stay-at-home order that is currently in place until at least May 1.
