Cleveland Clinic Minority Men's Health Fair to be postponed due to coronavirus concerns

A rescheduled date will likely occur this Fall.

CLEVELAND — Due to escalating concerns about coronavirus, this Spring's Cleveland Clinic Minority Men's Fair has been canceled.

Founder and Director Dr. Charles Modlin made the announcement on Facebook on Tuesday morning.

"I greatly regret to announce that we have had to make the unfortunate decision to cancel our Cleveland Clinic Minority Men’s Health Fair for this Spring on April 23, 2020 due to concern about the Coronavirus. We do this for the safety and concern of our health fair attendees, caregiver volunteers and sponsors," Dr. Modlin wrote.

"Please stay tuned for announcements regarding a rescheduled date which will likely occur this fall 2020," he added.

Dr. Modlin started the Minority Men's Health Fair in 2003. Since then, more than 16,000 men have attended the health fair and have undergone a total of more than 48,000 screenings. The health fair includes free health screenings and information on topics such as prostate cancer, blood pressure, cholesterol, kidney function, diabetes (blood sugar), heart disease, Hepatitis C, HIV, lung health, skin cancer, vision and dental screenings, oral cancer, stress/depression, body mass index and wellness.

On Monday, local and state officials announced that three residents of Cuyahoga County were confirmed with Ohio's first cases of coronavirus. All are in their mid-50s. Two of them are a married couple who were recently on a cruise on the Nile River and the third attended a conference in Washington D.C.

Cuyahoga County Health Director Terry Allen says none of the people with confirmed coronavirus cases in Ohio are currently hospitalized. All three, as well as six close contacts to the patients, have been quarantined at home. Seniors and people with chronic illnesses like heart disease and diabetes are believed to be the people most at risk.
