CLEVELAND, Ohio — Five days after being released from the hospital, a COVID-19 patient says each day is getting better.
“Today, I’m able to sit up, the other day I couldn’t even hold my head up,” explains Carol Y. Joiner. “At first, I couldn’t even walk from one room to the next without having to lay down.”
The 60-year-old realtor was released from the hospital on Thursday after spending nearly 24 hours at Cleveland Clinic Marymount due to difficulty breathing. She did not need a respirator.
“I don’t want to say near death experience but this Coronavirus, people are dying from it, I lived through it, I’m grateful, I don’t take it for granted.”
Joiner says family and friends have been dropping off water, juice and home cooked meals, leaving them on her doorstep. Two of the first things she’s looking forward to when she’s cleared from isolation are walking her daughter’s dog, Dolce and getting back to work.
“It wasn’t because I was this special individual; it was God’s grace, it was the prayers of all my friends, I had so many people praying for me, checking on me and calling me,” she says.
Joiner has a virtual doctor’s appointment on Wednesday but says she has to be cleared by the health department before she can be allowed out of isolation.
She celebrates her birthday on Thursday.
