CLEVELAND — Cuyahoga County officials held their weekly press conference regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, but the questions asked Friday are were on a national scale.
This morning, President Donald Trump confirmed he and his wife Melania have tested positive for the coronavirus, and that both will be isolating inside the White House while they recover. The announcement comes just days after both were in Cleveland for the first presidential debate with Democratic nominee Joe Biden, and it is possible scores of people could've been exposed while the Trump campaign was in the city.
So far the president is only experiencing "mild" symptoms, but others close to him have also contracted the virus, including Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel and top White House aide Hope Hicks. What's more, some members of the Trump team were seen seated in the audience without face masks during Tuesday's debate at the Samson Pavilion, and NBC's Hallie Jackson reports members of the president's campaign (including some in his family) refused to put masks on despite being asked to by Cleveland Clinic officials.
County health leaders were asked about what happened at the debate, as well as what contact tracing efforts are occurring now. You can watch their remarks again in the player below:
