Southwest Ohio sheriff's office tells citizens not to call them for mask-mandate violations: 'We are not the mask police'

'Please DO NOT call us or 911 reporting someone not wearing a mask!!'

DARKE COUNTY, Ohio — One Ohio county is laying down the law regarding Gov. Mike Dewine's recent statewide mask-mandate.

Darke County, located on the Ohio/Indiana border just outside of Dayton, is making their position on the order from the governor known in a recent Facebook post from their sheriff's office.

"We are NOT the mask police" the sheriff's office posted on Facebook Wednesday. "Please DO NOT call us or 911 reporting someone not wearing a mask!!"

The post comes less than 24 hours after DeWine's announcement that all 88 Ohio counties will have a mandatory mask rule in place beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday. The order mandates that individuals are to wear a face-covering while inside an indoor location that is not a residence, while outdoors anywhere where a six-foot-distance is unable to be kept, and whenever waiting for public transportation.

Exceptions to the rule include individuals aged 10-and-under as well as those who have serious health conditions.
