What follows are some of the subjects DeWine may discuss during Thursday's briefing:
Vaccines
Earlier this week, Ohio began distributing its first batches of the coronavirus vaccine to frontline workers. On Friday, the state is expected to begin distribution in nursing homes
According to Gov. DeWine, Ohio is expected to receive more than 420,000 doses of the coronavirus vaccine by Christmas (next week). Thursday's press briefing could provide more insight into the state's distribution plans, both in the short term and long term.
Holidays ahead
Despite the arrival of the coronavirus vaccine, DeWine has warned about the need to continue to take precautions and safety measures, including social distancing and the wearing of masks. Those sentiments ring especially true in the middle of the holiday season, with Christmas and New Year's Eve still ahead.
“This vaccine is not going to cover people quickly enough...the rest of December, January and February are probably going to be hell if we don’t turn this thing around,” DeWine said on Monday.
Thursday will provide another opportunity for DeWine to issue a similar warning. And as he did for Thanksgiving, he could also provide advice for those looking to take part in safe holiday gatherings.
Public Health Advisory System
As he does each Thursday, DeWine will reveal Ohio's latest Public Health Advisory System relating to the coronavirus. Last week saw five Northeast Ohio counties remain at Level 4 "Purple" -- the highest coronavirus risk level in the system.
While that number may be down from seven Northeast Ohio counties being labeled as "Purple" a week prior, DeWine has noted in recent weeks that there's only so much one can read into the state's current levels. What is undeniable, however, is that Ohio remains in the midst of a COVID-19 surge and will need to continue to be vigilant in its fight against the ongoing pandemic.
You will be able to stream DeWine's full press briefing in the video player above beginning at 2 p.m. ET.
