CLEVELAND — During a special Friday afternoon press conference, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine was asked whether he believes that the Cleveland Clinic should be fined for not enforcing mask rules inside of the Samson Pavillion during the first presidential debate on Tuesday night.
"It's a great institution," Governor DeWine said of the Cleveland Clinic's enforcement of masks inside the debate hall, "I think they did a very very good job."
This comes after both President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump tested positive for the Coronavirus early on Friday morning.
During Tuesday night's debate in Cleveland, the First Lady-- along with several of President Trump's older children-- were photographed not wearing masks, however.
During the press conference, DeWine also pushed the question to Lt. Governor Jon Husted, who was in the Samson Pavillion in Cleveland on Tuesday.
"Look I was there for the entire day, to get into the debate hall you had to have a test for the virus that came back negative," Lt. Governor Husted said, "Everybody who got in had to have their temperature taken, everybody who got in had to wear a mask."
In regards to the pictures and videos of the Trump family not wearing masks during the debate and whether the Cleveland Clinic should be fined, Husted said "I saw almost everyone inside the venue had a mask on, I wasn't in a position that I could see everyone, but everyone that was in my sightline had a mask on, outside of the participants in the debate."
The Ohio Lt. Governor continued by saying that he believes that the Cleveland Clinic did the best they could to stop the spread of the Coronavirus, including social distancing of chairs.
