CLEVELAND — More than 500 complaints have been sent to Cuyahoga County tip lines designed to target businesses and public places where people are violating Ohio's face-covering policies in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.
A county spokeswoman on Monday said the number of calls continues to grow since the tip line, both phone and web-based, was opened Friday after Ohio's more stringent mask policy was implemented to fend off rising COVID-19 cases.
The calls have come from all over the county, naming businesses and public places where tipsters have alleged face-covering mandates were being violated.
Mary Louise Madigan, the county spokeswoman, said the county intends to send the complaints to the businesses named, or the municipality where the alleged violations took place.
Madigan said the hope is that any missteps can be corrected. The tip lines were established in response to Gov. Mike DeWine's mandate to requires masks inside buildings or outdoors where social distancing is impractical.
