Kalahri to close for at least 2-plus weeks due to coronavirus concerns

Guests will still have full use of the water park until 4 p.m. Sunday.

SANDUSKY, Ohio — Another popular Northeast Ohio spot is temporarily shutting down due to coronavirus concerns, as Kalahari announced Saturday it will close until at least April 2.

Guests currently staying at the resort will still have full access to the water park and other facilities on Sunday, but must leave by 4 p.m. Everyone with previously scheduled reservations between now and April 1 will receive a full refund.

"As we together navigate through this uncharted territory, we are very thankful for our incredible communities, guests and associates during this uncertain time," Kalahari said in a statement, emphasizing that there have been no confirmed cases of COVID-19 at the resort. "We’re optimistic that healthier days are on the horizon."

Multiple places have been forced to shut their doors for the time being after Gov. Mike DeWine banned most gatherings of more than 100 people in an effort to stop the spread of the virus. Cedar Point (also in Sandusky) has closed its Castaway Bay water park, but as of now still plans to open the amusement park in May.

The coronavirus pandemic has so far killed more than 5,800 people worldwide, including 55 in the United States. There have been 26 confirmed cases in Ohio, but no deaths.
