The letter reads:
"Dear Kenston High School Families and Staff,
"Today, we were notified that an individual at the high school tested positive with COVID-19. As required, the Geauga Public Health Department (GPHD) has been informed and is advising us during this process.
"GPHD uses a proactive contact tracing process and will notify individuals who may have been exposed. They will provide quarantine information and additional direction if necessary.
"As we work to keep students and staff safe during this pandemic, we will share as much information as possible with you, while still following legal privacy laws. If you have any specific questions, please contact GHPD at 440-279-1900."
Last week, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine said that he would soon be issuing an order requiring the state's schools to establish a coronavirus reporting system. The data from each school will then be available via a statewide database.
“We’ve been discussing this, and I’ve tasked my team with coming up with a consistent state plan,” DeWine said during his coronavirus briefing last Tuesday. “In other words, the way these are reported to the public should be – whether it’s in Belmont County or Huron County or Hamilton County – it should be the same way. So we will have a procedure to outline for you on Thursday. Frankly, I felt it needs to be consistent. … It needs to be reported to the health department, obviously. But it needs to be, also in real time, reported to parents so that parents have an idea what’s going on. And then it needs to be also reported to the news media.”
