SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio — On Tuesday, December 28, the Ohio National Guard, along with Akron Children's Hospital, Cleveland Clinic Akron General and Summa Health, will open a new drive-thru COVID-19 testing site.
The news comes as Ohio reported more than 15,000 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, a record-breaking day in the state's fight against the coronavirus.
"As the number of COVID-19 cases in Summit County continue to rise, testing is an important tool for mitigating the spread," officials said in a release.
Testing is free and open to anyone aged two or older.
Appointments will be required to receive a PCR test and can be made here. The site, held at 1077 Gorge Blvd. in Akron, will be open through December 30 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Beginning on Jan. 2, the site will be open seven days a week and will be able to administer 300 COVID-19 tests each day.
Summit County public officials also recommend that residents stay home if they are sick, wash hands frequently with soap and water, limit your interactions with others, and wear a mask in public.
