CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio — One of Summit County's most beloved restaurants has closed its doors for good.
In a Facebook post, Retro Dog announced that after eight years of providing the greater Akron area with gourmet hot dogs and craft-made root beer, it is permanently closing as of October 18.
"It's with great sadness this decision has come to be," Retro Dog wrote in a post. "We have always been faced with challenges due to location and seasonality, now with Covid-19 pandemic, it is simply not feasible for us to continue to operate profitably."
Retro Dog was located on Steels Corners Road in Cuyahoga Falls. For many, the restaurant was a must-stop before concerts at Blossom Music Center. The news of Retro Dog's closing was received with sadness on Facebook. Here were some of the posts:
Nelly Wilde - "Oh no. You were our go to for burgers and dogs. We ordered not too long ago. You will be missed. Truly our favorite burger joint in the area."
Jennifer Berthelot-Jelovic - "Noooo! This breaks my heart. 💔 This was one of my family’s favorite spots when we visit Ohio once a year. Three of us are vegetarians and the options were limitless and amazing! You will be greatly missed when our annual trips resume. Thank you for so many great memories! 🙏🏻"
Rachel Rosky - "I really can’t believe this, our family loves Retro Dog. We are so sad to see it closed, we wish you all the best."
"We would like to thank our local customers, business partners, and the greater Akron community who have demonstrated their support in so many ways throughout the years," Retro Dog added in its Facebook post. "Many wonderful relationships have been created and we will always be grateful. Most importantly, we would like to thank the extraordinary staff. Their dedication and hard work during our tenure has been nothing short of astounding. The staff has always been our motivation during these challenging of times."
