Seven employees at Firelands Counseling and Recovery in Sandusky test positive for COVID-19

Currently, no clients have tested positive.

SANDUSKY, Ohio — The Erie County Health Department and Firelands Regional Medical Center are conducting an investigation to identify all close contacts after seven confirmed casesof coronavirus at Firelands Counseling and Recovery.

 All clients and employees of the location are being notified of their risk of potential exposure.

If you visited the location at 1925 Hayes Avenue in Sandusky on or after April 4, 2020, you should contact your case manager or the Mental Health and Chemical Dependency Hotline at 1-800-826-1306.

Individuals identified as close contacts of the infected employees will be contacted with further instructions on self-quarantining and monitoring symptoms. Close contacts can be defined as someone who has spent extended periods of time in very close proximity of or living in the same household as an infected individual.

According to a press release, the Firelands Counseling and Recovery location will re-open on Monday, April 20, 2020 after an extensive cleaning has been conducted in the previous days. 

Everyone entering the building will be required to wear a mask or face covering moving forward. Those with appointments are to plan ahead by bringing a mask or cloth face covering, such as a bandana, with them to their appointment.
