COLUMBUS, Ohio — During today's daily press briefing, Lt. Gov. Jon Husted announced plans to allow all Ohio High School Athletic Association sports, including contact sports.
Sports like football and basketball will be allowed to resume skills training, including weight training, agility and conditioning on May 26, coinciding with the opening of gyms and fitness centers, as well as bowling alleys and miniature golf centers and batting cages (also announced today).
While teams will be allowed to train, tournaments, games, competitions and scrimmages for contact sports will still be prohibited. The governor's office has not yet made a decision as to when competitions will be allowed.
Once posted, guidelines for safety protocols for contact sports will be published here, on the state's Responsible Restart Ohio page.
