3 employees at Cleveland Heights elementary school test positive for COVID-19

The school was disinfected Thursday using a Clorax 360 machine, according to Superintendent Liz Kirby.

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio — Three employees at a Cleveland Heights Elementary school have tested positive for the Coronavirus.

All three of the workers, employed at Fairfax Elementary, worked at the school both Monday and Tuesday. The school was disinfected Thursday using a Clorax 360 machine, according to Superintendent Liz Kirby.

In addition to the school building, one of the staff members visited the Board of Education for a background check. That area has also been thoroughly disinfected.

This statement went out to staff and parents on Thursday:

"Late yesterday evening we were notified that two Fairfax Elementary School employees have tested positive for COVID-19. Both employees worked in the school building on Monday and Tuesday. This morning, the Clorox 360 disinfecting machine was deployed throughout the building spaces.

"One of the staff members also came into the Board of Education on Wednesday, August 12 in the late afternoon for a background check. The staff member did not visit any other departments. The HR office has since been carefully disinfected.

"Cleaning and sanitation protocols have been followed throughout the week for both Fairfax and the entire Board of Education. The Cuyahoga County Health Department has been notified of these positive tests, and they will trace and contact appropriate individuals according to their guidelines.

"Please let your supervisor know if you have any questions or concerns. As always, stay home if you are not feeling well or if you exhibit symptoms such as a dry cough, fever, difficulty breathing, or lack of taste/smell.

"Contact the Ohio Department of Health at 833-4-ASKODH for answers to your questions about COVID-19/coronavirus. A live operator is available from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. every day. You can also visit coronavirus.ohio.gov."

The Cuyahoga County Health Department has been notified of the positive cases and will trace and contact the necessary people according to their guidelines.

EDITOR'S NOTE: A previous version of this story indicated the three employees who tested positive were teachers. The district has confirmed they are, in fact, NOT members of the teaching staff.
