On Monday morning, DeWine gave brief, surprise remarks to discuss COVID-19 vaccine distribution in Ohio.
The first shipments of the vaccine arrived in the state Sunday, and people are expected to begin receiving the shots today. The governor and Ohio First Lady Fran DeWine are watching the first shots via stream at the Ohio State University's Wexner Medical Center.
"This is the day that we've been waiting for," DeWine said from outside the hospital. "The end is a long way off, but the end now is in sight."
DeWine also shared a video on Twitter, of him and first lady Fran DeWine welcoming the UPS and FedEx trucks as they arrived with the first doses, calling the event, "an historic occasion," adding, "This is hope. This is the beginning of the end of the pandemic."
The first group to be vaccinated will include first responders, those in nursing homes, and others vulnerable to the coronavirus. DeWine says eight other Ohio hospitals, including many in the Cleveland-Akron-Canton area, will receive doses tomorrow.
