CLEVELAND — “I want to experience all the life I can .... the beauty of growing old with the husband of my youth ... the gift of seeing our children grow up ... the blessing of being around to hold our grandchildren .... and the opportunity to be a light to as many people as possible.”
That’s part of the message shared from 3News’ Danielle Wiggins as she provided an update on social media Tuesday evening after undergoing a procedure following her diagnosis with breast cancer.
Her message was also filled with gratitude for all the support.
“I first want to say thank you for all of your prayers, love, kind words, flowers, gifts, cards, food and support since I announced my breast cancer diagnosis,” Wiggins wrote. “The kindness my family and I have received has allowed us to find a reason to smile through these challenging times. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
Last month, Wiggins discussed the news of her diagnosis, which was detected after she noticed something during a self exam.
Here’s the full update from Danielle herself:
Hi everybody from my family and me.
I first want to say thank you for all of your prayers, love, kind words, flowers, gifts, cards, food and support since I announced my breast cancer diagnosis. The kindness my family and I have received has allowed us to find a reason to smile through these challenging times. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I have good news! My procedure went well! My medical team at the Cleveland Clinic was able to extract the known cancer through surgery. I was recently informed the cancer was caught in the early stages. (That breast self-exam I told you about in the story shared on WKYC Channel 3 - Cleveland and not delaying my first mammogram screening were key to early detection.)
However, I'm not out of the woods just yet. While I'm in the process of healing physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually, my fight also turns to preventative treatments to lower the chances of this cancer returning. I'll spare you all of the details but know I plan to do everything in my power to be around on this side of heaven for as long as the good Lord will allow.
I want to experience all the life I can .... the beauty of growing old with the husband of my youth ... the gift of seeing our children grow up ... the blessing of being around to hold our grandchildren .... and the opportunity to be a light to as many people as possible.
Friends, to be honest, this journey isn't fun but it's filled with so many lessons that I hope to share with you one day. I'll leave you with what this journey is teaching me consistently ... you don't have to go through hard times and suffering alone. Choose to let love in.
