CLEVELAND — Health officials say two women recently died from flu-related illness in Cuyahoga County.
Their deaths were confirmed Friday as the Cuyahoga County Board of Health released new flu data for the week of Feb. 16-22.
The deaths include a 33-year-old woman from East Cleveland and 79-year-old woman from Lakewood. This brings the total number of flu-related deaths this season to 16.
In the same week, health officials say there were also 103 confirmed cases of flu-associated hospitalizations.
This update comes the day after 3News learned Cleveland Clinic cardiologist Dr. David Taylor died from flu complications.
So far this season, there have been 1,496 confirmed flu cases within the county. Last week, county health officials recorded five flu-related deaths.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows Ohio currently has “widespread” flu activity.
Although we're deep into flu season, health officials say it's still not too late to get a flu shot.
