5 new flu deaths reported in Cuyahoga County

A particularly nasty flu season continues even amid the global coronavirus pandemic.

CLEVELAND — Even as coronavirus dominates the local and national headlines, health officials are still warning residents of the flu, which has been particularly dangerous this season.

Cuyahoga County reports five more people died from influenza-related circumstances this week, with the patients ranging in age from 40-79. This brings the county death toll to 28 this flu season.

Flu-related doctor visits more than double from last week, but the total for the season is still roughly on par with the last five years. However, flu hospitalizations and ER visits are still above the five-year median.

The Cuyahoga County Department of Health continues to remind people to wash their hands and get vaccinated. Anyone with flu-like symptoms should immediately contact a doctor.
