CLEVELAND — The American Brain Tumor Association (ABTA) will host the inaugural Cleveland 2024 Breakthrough for Brain Tumors 5k (BT5k) Run and Walk. The Cleveland BT5k is a 3.1-mile course that will help raise critical funding for brain tumor research and patient services.
Interested participants can run individually, create a team or join an existing group. For those who cannot attend in person, individuals can also join as virtual participants. This year, dogs are also welcome to participate in the run.
The event site opens at 8 a.m. on September 28, 2024, in the South Mastick Picnic Area, Fairview Park, Ohio. People are encouraged to register in advance at BT5k.org. A brief patient and caregiver-focused Q&A session with Justin Lathia, PhD, Scientific Director, Rose Ella Burkhardt Brain Tumor and Neuro Oncology Center, Cleveland Clinic, and Herbert Newton, MD, FAAN, Neuro-Oncology Medical Director, UH Brain Tumor Center, will kick off the event.
ABTA has partnered with local institutions including Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals and Case Western for the Cleveland BT5k. Novocure, GT Medical, Imvax and Genentech will sponsor the event.
WKYC Senior Health Correspondent Monica Robins is living with a brain tumor and will be taking part in the event. She's also fundraising for the cause. You can learn more about her story on her page HERE.
