CLEVELAND — The uncertain circumstances surrounding the coronavirus pandemic is enough to cause nervousness in anybody -- but it can be especially tough for those already dealing with anxiety.
"I have to take a step back and just take a moment to consider what’s going on now and saying, ‘You know what? Everything is going to be OK.’ I think that’s lost in a lot of people during this."
Those are the words of Cleveland Cavaliers star Kevin Love, who appeared on NBC's Today Wednesday morning for a candid conversation about mental health amid the pandemic with Carson Daly.
“A lot of people that were mildly anxious or had feelings like that have stepped into a place where that unknown is making them even more anxious," Love said. "They don’t know when they’re going to work again. They don’t know what this is going to look like, how this is going to change us coming out of this.”
Love, who opened up about his mental health story last year, has become a springboard for others -- like Daly -- to step forward and discuss their own issues with anxiety.
"We owe you a great debt of gratitude for that," Daly told Love.
Both Love and Daly said following some structure and routine has helped them get through this.
“We have a similar routine every day," Love said. "We watch a lot of movies, a lot of film. Working out, making sure that we’re doing that and keeping our mind right. ... I have my morning routine, but still taking that time to separate myself from my devices and getting things done, I think, alleviates that stress.”
To decompress, he's also reading two books: Wolf of Wall Street and My Age of Anxiety.
Last month, he pledged to donate $100,000 to the Cavs arena employees and team staff impacted by the cancellation of NBA games.
