Mandel Foundation donates $30 million to Cleveland Clinic for leadership and innovation

'We are deeply appreciative of this latest gift from the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Foundation.'

The Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Foundation has announced a $30 million gift to the Cleveland Clinic that will help enhance innovation. 

The donation will significantly impact leadership as it will establish the Morton L. Mandel CEO Chair and the Morton L. Mandel Innovation Fund.

The positions are named after local businessman Mort Mandel, who passed away at 98 in 2019.

“Providing outstanding medical care, developing innovative ideas and training the leaders of the future are three elements at Cleveland Clinic that were extremely important to Mort and remain extremely important to the Foundation,” said Jehuda Reinharz, Ph.D., President and Chief Executive Officer of the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Foundation. “We feel this gift will continue to support those efforts at Cleveland Clinic.”

Current Cleveland Clinic CEO And President Dr. Tom Mihaljevic will be the first to hold the position as the Morton L. Mandel CEO Chair. Morton Mandel was also friends with Mihaljevic and his predecessor Dr. Toby Cosgrove.

“We are deeply appreciative of this latest gift from the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Foundation,” said Dr. Mihaljevic. “Mort was an innovative leader, generous philanthropist and dear friend who left an incredible legacy at Cleveland Clinic and beyond. I am humbled and honored to be the inaugural holder of the Morton L. Mandel CEO Chair.”  

Each year, the CEO can use the annual funds from the Mandel Innovation Fund endowment to help develop innovative ideas that will enhance the communities that Cleveland Clinic serves.
