MAPLE HEIGHTS, Ohio — A man has been arrested after he allegedly stabbed a clinician at Signature Health in Maple Heights.
Maple Heights Police Chief Todd Hansen confirmed the incident to 3News. Chief Hansen said the victim is a 49-year-old man who is a clinician at Signature Health. On Friday, Maple Heights police said that the man was taken to a hospital where he is currently in critical but stable condition.
The suspect was identified Friday as 24-year-old Jason Halasz. He has been charged with attempted murder and felonious assault.
According to Chief Hansen, the suspect was inside of a room in the clinic for treatment with the worker. At some point after the during the visit, the suspect stabbed the worker. The worker then ran out of the room with the suspect chasing him. The worker was stabbed again before security guards were able to stop the suspect, according to Chief Hansen.
Signature Health CEO Jonathan Lee released the following statement on the incident:
“Earlier today, an incident occurred at Signature Health's Maple Heights location and a clinician was injured and taken to the hospital.
“Signature Health’s highest priority right now is the welfare of the individual who was injured, and our thoughts are with those impacted at this time.
“We are committed to providing a safe environment and we are taking this situation very seriously. We are working with local authorities to determine whether any additional actions are needed, and the Maple Heights office will be closed for the remainder of the week. We will provide further details as appropriate.”
Halasz appeared in court Friday and was given a $2 million bond. He will have a preliminary hearing on May 7.
