OSHP: 'Dangerous' behavioral health patient who escaped South Euclid facility is back in custody

Court records show Yusef Dejarnette was found not guilty of attempted murder by reason of insanity in 2002. The circumstances of his escape are under investigation.

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol says a behavioral health patient who escaped during a medical appointment in South Euclid on Wednesday is back in custody. The patient had been described as both "dangerous" and having "violent tendencies."

According to the OSHP, 46-year-old Yusef Antwine Dejarnette, a patient at the Northcoast Behavioral Health Center, escaped from his medical appointment at 14055 Cedar Road on foot. Around 7:30 p.m., authorities sent out a notice confirming Dejarnette had been captured under "peaceful" circumstances.

Troopers say Dejarnette was a patient at Northcoast Behavioral Health after "a court order in relation to a 2002 criminal court case in Cuyahoga County." 3News later searched court records confirming Dejarnette had been found not guilty of attempted murder in Beachwood by reason of insanity and confined to a psychiatric hospital.

The circumstances regarding Dejarnette's escape are currently under investigation.
