As monkeypox cases in Cleveland continue to rise, the city is continuing to host vaccination clinics for those who are most at risk.
According to the Cleveland Department of Public Health, Cleveland has had 77 monkeypox cases to date, while the state of Ohio has reported 254. Due to a limited supply of the JYNNEOS vaccine, eligibility is restricted to those at highest risk of a recent exposure based on national and local cases. This includes: men who are gay, bisexual, or have sex with men, are transgender, gender non‐conforming, or gender non‐binary who have multiple or anonymous sex partners in the last 14 days, as well as persons who have been exposed to persons with confirmed monkeypox.
The Cleveland Department of Public Health will host vaccination clinics for the two-dose vaccine, which require at least four weeks between doses, on the following dates:
- Tuesday, September 20, 2022 (2nd dose clinic)
- Friday, September 23, 2022
- Friday September 30, 2022
- Location: 1313 E. 26th Street, Cleveland, OH 44114
- Time: 12pm‐6pm
While current monkeypox cases are disproportionately affecting gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men, anyone can get and spread monkeypox, regardless of sexual orientation. Monkeypox is spread via skin‐to‐skin contact with an infected person, contact with contaminated clothes or linen, or contact with respiratory secretions from an infected individual. Scientists are also currently investigating how often it is spread via respiratory secretions, according to CDPH.
