CUYAHOGA COUNTY, Ohio — Red Cross disaster workers continue to respond to requests for assistance following last week’s tornadoes and storms in Northeast Ohio.
Trained volunteers are assessing damage to homes. Residents whose homes experienced structural damage, rendering them unlivable and those with life-sustaining medical equipment needs are eligible for Red Cross assistance.
As of Tuesday morning, about 60 households had received immediate financial assistance totaling almost $35,000, benefitting nearly 200 residents.
The only way the Red Cross has the resources to offer help following a disaster like a tornado, flooding or home fires is through the generosity of donors.
The blood supply was already down 25% due to lower summer donations and the heatwave that impacted blood drives. Now last week’s storms and power outages made the problem even worse.
Now that power is restored the Red Cross is asking donors of all blood types, especially those with type O, to give as soon as possible to help patients in need of lifesaving medical care.
