PARMA, Ohio — The U.S. Attorney's Office Northern District of Ohio Heroin & Opioid Task Force Prevention & Education subcommittee is holding a panel discussion on Wednesday, October 26th at the Parma-Snow Library on 2121 Snow Road in Parma.

The event is free and open to the public and begins at 6:30 p.m. in the library auditorium.

3News Senior Health Correspondent Monica Robins will moderate the discussion: Understanding Addiction, Treatment & Recovery.

Panelists include Daniel Lettenberger-Klein, the executive director of Stella Maris, Dr. Martina Moore, Moore Counseling & Mediation Services, Inc., and Karen Snyder, Chief Operations Officer of 2nd Act and community member in recovery.

Actors in recovery will also perform a short scene of "I'll Never Do That" by 2nd Act.

According to the Ohio Department of Health, there were spikes in opioid-related overdose deaths during the second quarter of 2020 that coincided with delivery of federal stimulus checks to the public.

In the second quarter of 2020, more Ohioans died of opioid overdoses than at any point since 2010.

According to the American Medical Association, the nation’s drug overdose epidemic continues to change and become worse. The epidemic affects every state and now is driven by illicit fentanyl, fentanyl analogs, methamphetamine, and cocaine, often in combination or in adulterated forms. More than 107,000 deaths were reported in the United States between December 2020 to December 2021.

Questions about the event can be emailed to karen@weare2ndact.org.
