LAKEWOOD, Ohio — When Lakewood loosened their laws on pit bulls, they tightened their laws on leashes.
And now an 87-year old resident wants a little slack.
"This isn’t the Lakewood I signed up for 55 years ago," Fay Olson said.
Two weeks ago she was warned by a Lakewood dog official for her use of retractable leashes on her morning walk with her Welsh Corgi and Yorkie.
"The retractable leash is so much better -- and faster -- for me to pull the dogs back," she told Channel 3.
The Lakewood law reads: ""Keep your dog controlled and on a non-retractable leash of six feet in length."
The law change came last year when Lakewood dropped it's ban on breed-restricted dogs after the "I'm With Charlie" campaign. Pit bulls were allowed in, but retractable leashes were cut out.
"I will be at City Council's meeting on Monday to let city leaders know how ridiculous I think this is," Olson said.
Channel 3 reached out the Mayor, the President of City Council and the head of Animal Control. None got back to us by end of business Tuesday.
